April 2014 Des Moines Market Snapshot

Welcome to the New Normal

The New Normal

With four months of 2014 under our belts, it is clear that the number of homes for sale at one time is going to remain lower than years prior to 2013.  There has been a bit of a surge during the last week of April, but the lower inventory is making buyers move quicker when searching because the odds are that the home they like may not be available tomorrow.

One area of our inventory that is seeing an increase well above last year is new construction.  As of April 30th, there are more new construction listings on the market compared to April 30th of the years 2010 through 2013.  There are currently 926 new construction properties for sale making up over 27% of all Active inventory on April 30th.

Where will we be at the end of May?  Only time will tell…
