The nicest day of the year so far brought many people in Des Moines outside. Some were just out for a walk around Grays Lake or their neighborhood and others like me were getting the first look at how our homes and yards survived the winter from he**.
With the ground frozen as much as 30 inches deep, there will be lots of water standing as snow melts with no place to run. I’m hearing of friends with backyards that resemble pools or even lakes. I took the opportunity to climb up on my roof and inspect flashing and to clean out gutters in anticipation of the spring rains that are sure to come. Also be sure to inspect downspouts and make certain that you keep as much water away from your foundation as possible.
